For propagation, parts of the compound leaf, individual leaflets, or their fragments with a portion of the rachis are used. The process begins with the formation of callus at the cut site, from which adventitious roots and a tuber develop. Due to the biology of the plant, rooting in water is not recommended because of a high susceptibility to rot; direct planting in a loose, aerated substrate is preferred.

The plant's development is extremely slow: tuber formation takes from 2 to 6 months, and the emergence of a full-fledged shoot can take up to 14 months. Studies show that apical parts of the leaf are more efficient for rhizome formation, and to accelerate the process after rooting, it is optimal to maintain a temperature in the range of 29–32°C.
