Morphologically, Crocosmia flower stalks are thin but sturdy stems capable of branching. The length of the main inflorescence shoot is measured in centimeters from the base to the apex. Cultivars with flower stalks of 50–60 cm are considered low-growing and suitable for container gardening, whereas tall forms reaching 100–150 cm are valued for their architectural appearance in landscape design and as cut flowers.
The development of flower stalks is influenced by planting dates and light intensity: light deficiency causes weakening and curvature of the stems. Despite their natural rigidity, tall flower stalks are prone to lodging under excessive nitrogen nutrition or strong winds. Furthermore, their morphology is negatively affected by Fusarium infections, which cause deformations, as well as excessive soil moisture.
