Daylily Scape

The scape is the primary organ for evaluating the varietal qualities of a daylily. Depending on the stem height, cultivars are divided into groups: dwarf (up to 30 cm), low-growing (30–60 cm), medium-growing (60–90 cm), and tall (more than 90 cm). An important indicator is the ratio of the scape height to the leaf rosette level: specimens with stems rising above the foliage are considered the most ornamental.

Technical characteristics of the scape include the strength required to support the weight of the flowers, as well as the branching pattern, which determines the total number of buds and the duration of the plant's blooming. In addition, daughter leaf rosettes, known as proliferations, can form in the axils of the daylily bracts and are used for vegetative propagation of the plant.
