Peduncle — Xerochrysum bracteatum

When evaluating Xerochrysum bracteatum cultivars, peduncle length is measured in centimeters, and its thickness in millimeters. For commercial cultivars intended for cutting, long, strong, and resilient stems reaching a height of 60–90 cm are preferred, as this ensures the stability of the flower heads in bouquets and arrangements.

Border forms are characterized by shortened peduncles about 30 cm in height. An important selection trait is the uniformity of peduncle length within a cultivar. For tall plants, pinching above the 5th or 6th leaf is used to improve product quality, which stimulates branching and the formation of a greater number of high-quality peduncles capable of resisting lodging under wind loads.
