Suitability for cutting — Xerochrysum bracteatum

To obtain high-quality cut flowers, the inflorescences of Xerochrysum should be harvested at the stage when the lower 3–4 rows of the involucral bracts have moved away from the bud, while the central part remains tightly closed. Timely harvesting is important, as if the inflorescence is fully opened, the central disk becomes less decorative after drying.

Agrotechnically, to improve the quality of cut flowers in tall varieties, the central shoot is pinched above the 5th–6th leaf to stimulate branching and produce long peduncles. Plants require regular mineral or organic nutrition, as its deficiency leads to smaller inflorescences.
