Fusarium wilt — red fescue
Festuca rubra L.
A disease of red fescue caused by a complex of fungal species in the genus Fusarium, leading to severe damage to turf stands. It differs from snow mold in its etiology and may be accompanied by the accumulation of mycotoxins, such as zearalenone.

Infection of red fescue in turf stands is associated with the activity of a group of fungi, which includes Fusarium cerealis, Fusarium graminearum, Fusarium culmorum, and Fusarium acuminatum. These species are capable of causing significant plant damage, while the development of the disease under these conditions is not linked to the snow mold pathogen Microdochium nivale.
The presence of species from the Fusarium incarnatum–equiseti complex on red fescue correlates with the risk of plant biomass contamination with mycotoxins. Currently, information on specific intraspecific races of the pathogen, as well as on the genetic factors of red fescue resistance to Fusarium wilt, is absent in scientific publications.
