Brassica oleracea L. (White Cabbage Group)

Six maturity groups are distinguished for white cabbage. Ultra-early varieties mature in 65–100 days, early-maturing in 100–115, mid-early in 115–130, mid-season in 130–145, mid-late in 145–160, and late-maturing require 160 days or more for the heads to reach harvest readiness.
The maturity group determines the cultivation strategy and the intended use of the produce. Early varieties form less dense heads and are used fresh. Mid-season and late varieties are characterized by higher density, with late-maturing varieties possessing high storage potential and being suitable for long-term storage. Using varieties from different groups allows for the creation of a production conveyor for a continuous supply of produce.
This trait also affects agronomic practices and plant resistance. Late-maturing varieties require increased phosphorus and potassium nutrition, while early varieties show a greater tendency to head cracking under irregular irrigation regimes.
