Maturity groups of common beans are classified by the number of days from seedling emergence to maturation: early-maturing varieties reach maturity in up to 85 days, mid-season varieties in 86–95 days, and late-maturing varieties require over 95–100 days. In intensive vegetable production, ultra-early forms are distinguished with a vegetation period of 50–60 days.

The choice of maturity group depends on the harvest objective: for snap beans (technical maturity) or for grain (biological maturity). Bush forms generally ripen more uniformly and quickly than pole beans. When choosing a variety, a balance is considered between yield potential, which is often higher in late-maturing varieties, and the climatic risks of the region.
