Helianthus annuus L.
A critical factor in sunflower yield that determines plant access to moisture and nutrients. Optimal seeding density depends on hybrid characteristics, moisture levels, and planned agronomic practices.

Excessive sunflower plant density leads to a decrease in 1000-seed weight, as well as a reduction in head diameter and oil content. Overly high plant density results in plant deformation, "stretching," uneven ripening, an increased risk of disease development, and damage to the crop during harvesting.
The seeding rate varies depending on regional moisture levels: from 35–45 thousand plants per hectare in arid zones to 50–60 thousand plants per hectare in conditions with sufficient moisture or on irrigated plots. When calculating the field rate, an adjustment for field emergence is taken into account, which is usually 10–25% lower than laboratory germination, as well as an 8–10% adjustment needed when planning mechanical harrowing after emergence.
