The optimal plant density for modern pea varieties ranges from 1.0 to 1.4 million viable seeds per hectare. To ensure efficient direct combining, the target density is 80–100 plants per square meter.

Sowing density directly affects the plant's biological processes: increasing the seeding rate helps shorten the growing season by 4–5 days and influences the intensity of symbiotic nitrogen fixation. However, excessive density under favorable conditions can lead to overgrowth and lodging of stems, complicating harvesting.
