Zantedeschia Bedding

For Zantedeschia, bedding represents a technological process of temporary summer landscaping based on strict lifecycle management of tuberous hybrids. In regions with cool climates, tubers are planted in warmed soil only after the threat of frost has passed, and in autumn, they must be lifted for storage in frost-free facilities.

The agronomy of Zantedeschia beds requires high standards of soil hygiene: to prevent infection by pathogens such as Erwinia, Pythium, or Rhizoctonia, the soil in the planting area must be disinfected or steamed. Unlike many annuals, pre-sprouting of tubers indoors from March to April is practiced to achieve flowering by mid-summer.

Modern tuberous forms of Zantedeschia prefer well-lit, wind-protected sites when planted outdoors, and group planting of tubers is recommended to enhance the decorative effect. Success in cultivation directly depends on the quality of the planting material, preferably using virus-free tubers obtained via tissue culture.
