Zantedeschia Cut Flower Suitability

Zantedeschia Spreng.

Suitability assessment is based on the classification of cultivars into cut flower and pot plant groups, as well as the flower maturity stage at harvest, which depends on the type of planting material.

In the reference 126 varieties crop Arum-lily, where this is mentioned in the description.

For Zantedeschia aethiopica, which is a rhizomatous species, harvesting is performed at an immature stage, as the flower is capable of maturing after being cut. For colored hybrids, which are of the tuberous type, harvesting is possible only when the plant reaches full maturity, as post-harvest maturation is not possible.

When selecting cultivars for production, the length and strength of the peduncle, the size of the spathe, and the forcing ability are taken into account. An important limiting factor is resistance to bacterial soft rot caused by Erwinia. Tuberous forms possess high transportability and are able to maintain their decorative quality in a vase for up to three weeks.
