Unlike cut flower technologies, the correct planting depth is critical here: the root collar must not be buried, and about 20% of the plug volume should remain above the substrate surface to prevent root rot.

The carnation is extremely sensitive to waterlogging; therefore, the technology requires the use of substrates with high drainage capacity and a neutral or slightly alkaline pH. Maintaining ornamental quality is achieved through regular pinching and the removal of spent inflorescences, while the habit is formed through a cool climate regime with a mandatory temperature differential between day and night.
