Phlox paniculata L.

A method of growing Phlox paniculata in a limited volume of soil, requiring consideration of root system depth, constant moisture, and a specific temperature regime during overwintering.

For the successful development of Phlox paniculata in containers, pots at least 30 cm wide are required, providing sufficient space for the root system, which penetrates the soil to a depth of up to 35 cm. An important condition is the presence of drainage holes and the use of fertile, well-drained soil mixtures.

The plant is extremely sensitive to substrate drying and therefore requires regular watering during the growing season. Due to the susceptibility of the stems to wind loads in container conditions, it is often necessary to install supports to maintain the ornamental value of compact varieties.

When storing plants in containers in protected ground during winter, it is necessary to maintain a specific temperature regime: in autumn, keep levels within +4…+6 °C, and from the end of January, gradually increase them to +8…+10 °C. Protecting the root system from the pot freezing is a mandatory measure.
