Symptomatology of bean leaf deformation caused by viral pathogens BCTV, BCMV, BLRV, or viruses of the Begomovirus group. It manifests as curling, crinkling, blistering, and stunted plant growth.

Curl symptoms are caused by various viral agents transmitted by pests. Beet curly top virus (BCTV), transmitted by the beet leafhopper, causes stiffening and upward curling of leaves. Bean common mosaic virus (BCMV) induces crinkling, blistering, and downward curling of leaves, while viruses of the Begomovirus group, transmitted by whiteflies, lead to thickening and puckering of leaf blades.
Genetic resistance to BCMV is provided by the genes bc-u, bc-1, bc-2, and bc-3, which determine the response to specific viral strains. Regarding BCTV, the involvement of the Bct gene in resistance formation has been documented in certain bean lines. Due to the non-specific nature of the symptoms, which can be mimicked by pests or physiological factors, ELISA or PCR methods are used for diagnosis.
