Lettuce necrotic leaf curl virus (LNLCV) belongs to the genus Torradovirus of the family Secoviridae. The infection manifests as stunted plant growth, leaf deformation and curling, as well as the appearance of necrosis and yellow spotting along the small veins of older leaves. The primary vectors of the virus are aphids, particularly Nasonovia ribisnigri and Cavariella aegopodii.

In agronomic practice, the term "leaf curl" is more often used to describe symptomatology rather than a standalone disease. Leaf deformation can be a consequence of pest activity, such as lettuce aphids, or physiological disorders caused by nutritional imbalances, temperature fluctuations, and water stress. Standard genetic resistance markers for leaf curl in crop breeding do not exist.
