In ornamental horticulture, double flowering is a varietal characteristic expressed by an increased number of petals in a flower to enhance aesthetic appeal. In the case of blackcurrants, double flowering, or reversion, manifests as a viral disease in which flowers are deformed into purple outgrowths, leaves lose their shape, and the plant becomes sterile.
This trait is assessed as a qualitative phenotypic indicator.
