The causal agent of powdery mildew on plants of the genus Agastache is the fungus Golovinomyces biocellatus, belonging to the order Erysiphales. This pathogen infects members of the Lamiaceae family, forming a characteristic thin white coating consisting of fungal mycelium on the stems and both sides of the leaf blades.

As the disease progresses, the white spots gradually enlarge, covering the entire surface of the affected organs. With intensive spread of the infection, yellowing and premature senescence of the leaves are observed, followed by their wilting and death. The disease tends to develop actively in warm and dry weather conditions.
