To evaluate the drought tolerance of Agastache, the Viability Index (VIT) is used, which accounts for growth dynamics, leaf count, and survival under restricted irrigation, as well as the analysis of biochemical markers, such as antioxidant enzyme activity levels and abscisic acid accumulation. A field capacity level below 100% triggers metabolic changes that correlate with cell membrane damage and malondialdehyde content.

Phenological development of the species under drought conditions is recorded using the BBCH scale; moisture deficit often leads to altered developmental rates and a shortened flowering period. There are differences between species: for example, A. foeniculum and several cultivars of the Kudos series are classified as tolerant after establishment, whereas A. scrophulariifolia prefers moist soils.

Moderate water stress can stimulate the biosynthesis of essential oils and secondary metabolites; however, a critical reduction in moisture to the permanent wilting point leads to a sharp decline in biomass. In agronomic practice, it is important to note that for many species, excess moisture in heavy soils is more dangerous than deficit, as it promotes the development of root rots.
