Other pathogens causing necrotic zones on leaves include the fungus-like organism Pythium tracheiphilum, which causes vascular necrosis, the fungus Alternaria cichorii, and a number of orthotospoviruses.

A physiological manifestation of necrosis in this crop is tipburn, which occurs due to calcium deficiency in young tissues when transpiration processes are disrupted. In endive breeding, there are no specific monogenic genes for resistance to necrotic lesions, and resistance to physiological disorders is considered a complex trait dependent on both genotype and growing conditions.
