When describing the color of rose petals, the primary color of the inner and outer sides is evaluated, as well as the type of pigment distribution: unicolorous, bicolorous, multicolor, or the presence of specific patterns, stripes, and spots. Instead of quantitative indicators, color intensity is used, along with the international classification of color groups adopted by the World Federation of Rose Societies.
This trait is an important indicator of variety quality, as many roses are prone to fading under the influence of intense sunlight and high temperatures. Color stability and saturation depend not only on genetic characteristics but also on environmental conditions, including soil acidity, which affects the expression of pigments and the availability of nutrients.
