Irrigation of strawberries is a critical agronomic practice due to the root system being located in the top 30 cm of soil. The crop is extremely sensitive to moisture deficits, requiring the maintenance of levels between 70–85% of field capacity.

Biological characteristics of the crop require the maintenance of a stable moisture level in the topsoil horizon, as the plant is unable to extract water from deep layers. The most critical growth stages are the flowering and fruit-filling periods, as well as the stage of floral bud initiation for the next year's crop following the harvest.
Excessive soil moisture, especially during the ripening period, sharply increases the risk of grey mold development and impairs aeration in the root zone. Consequently, the use of drip irrigation is recommended, as it ensures localized water delivery and keeps inter-row spaces dry, preventing sharp fluctuations in moisture that are detrimental to shallow roots.
