The crop is extremely heat-loving with an optimum temperature range of +20 to +25 °C, making the selection of early-maturing varieties critical for protecting the harvest from early autumn frosts.
The pepper root system has high requirements for soil aeration; therefore, loosening the soil after each irrigation and mulching to stabilize the water balance are mandatory practices. During the fruiting period, the plant requires increased doses of phosphorus and potassium, as excess nitrogen leads to excessive vegetative growth, while the prevention of viral diseases necessitates avoiding solanaceous crops as predecessors in crop rotation.
