In zucchini, parthenocarpy is expressed as the ability of female flowers to set fruit in the absence of fertilization, which is an important trait for the crop's adaptation to adverse conditions, such as cold temperatures or a lack of pollinating insects. Unlike in cucumber, parthenocarpy in zucchini is not absolute and is often classified as facultative, where fruit development can vary depending on external factors.

The evaluation of parthenocarpic ability is conducted by isolating female flowers from insects prior to anthesis. Results are recorded as the percentage of successfully formed marketable fruits relative to the total number of isolated flowers.
