The trailing trait in Calibrachoa is considered an element of plant habit and characterizes the ability of cultivars to form pendulous stems. This parameter determines the suitability of a cultivar for use in hanging baskets and containers.

There are no quantitative methods for measuring the trailing habit. Visual assessment is supplemented by measuring plant height within the range of 15–30 cm and the spread width of up to 60 cm. A high degree of trailing correlates with intensive stem growth, which must be taken into account when choosing containers and planning plant spacing.
