Under irrigation, hay yield can reach 50 c/ha, while seed productivity is assessed by the number of flower heads per unit area and seed weight.
High productivity of the crop is ensured by winter or late-autumn sowing dates and optimal stand density, which prevents competition or weed infestation. An important factor is the availability of phosphorus and potassium, which stimulate nitrogen fixation, as well as timely mowing at the beginning of flowering before the stems become coarse.
