In pure stands of crimson clover, the recommended seeding rate is 30 kg/ha; however, depending on regional conditions and the applied agrotechnology, this figure may vary between 15 and 28 kg/ha. When using the plant in multi-component forage mixtures, such as the Landsberger mixture, the clover rate is typically set at 20 kg/ha combined with equal parts of winter vetch and Italian ryegrass. In international practice, lower rates starting from 8–12 kg/ha may be used for mixed sowing with ryegrass.
The choice of seeding rate requires consideration of the physical characteristics of the seeds, which are larger in this crop than in red or white clover.
