In rhododendrons, late-season re-flowering is not considered a desirable trait; rather, it is viewed as an atypical phenomenon triggered by an abnormally warm autumn. Certain cultivars, such as 'Cunningham's White', show a tendency to open flower buds prematurely, which is a consequence of their phenological cycle rather than genetic remontancy.

This phenomenon is viewed negatively by agronomists, as the opening of buds in autumn reduces the plant's ornamental value for the upcoming season and disrupts winter preparation processes. Re-flowering increases the risk of shoot winterkill; therefore, agrotechnical measures are focused on avoiding nitrogen fertilization in the second half of the summer to prevent premature activation of growth processes.
