A fungal disease of red fescue caused by specialized pathogen species Uromyces festucae, Puccinia festucae, and Puccinia graminis f. phlei-pratensis.

The causative agents of rust on red fescue are fungi of the genera Puccinia and Uromyces. Leaf rust is caused by the species Uromyces festucae, crown rust by Puccinia festucae, and stem rust by the specialized form Puccinia graminis f. phlei-pratensis.

The infection manifests as the formation of pustules on leaves and leaf sheaths. The uredinia of Uromyces festucae appear as elongated, powdery orange pustules containing echinulate spores of spherical or ellipsoidal shape. Puccinia festucae is characterized by brownish-orange pustules with similar morphological spore traits.
