In addition to fruits, the fungus affects flowers, causing them to turn brown and wither, as well as young shoots, penetrating tissues primarily through mechanical damage or pest activity traces.

The development of the disease is facilitated by high humidity conditions and insufficient aeration of plantings. Currently, no specific genetic markers for resistance to gray mold have been identified in peach; the resistance of varieties is evaluated as a complex trait depending on the anatomical characteristics of the fruits and the general physiological state of the trees.
