A fungal disease of tomato caused by Botrytis cinerea, affecting all above-ground plant organs. It is characterized by necrotic spots and gray sporulation, including the specific symptom of "ghost spot" on fruits.

The disease is caused by Botrytis cinerea Pers. (teleomorph Botryotinia fuckeliana), which acts as a wound parasite. Tomatoes lack specific immunity genes, and the pathogen exhibits polyphagy, making breeding for resistance a complex task focused on identifying quantitative QTL loci and tolerance mechanisms.
On stems, the infection manifests as brown elliptical spots, often at the pruning sites, which can girdle the stem and lead to plant death. Leaf infection is characterized by V-shaped necrosis zones, and on fruits, in addition to general rotting, "ghost spot" is frequently observed — ring-shaped spots with a central dot.
