Typical yield indicators under rainfed conditions range from 45–50 t/ha. With intensive cultivation technologies, the use of irrigation and growth regulators, performance varies in the range of 50–70 t/ha, reaching 85 t/ha and higher under favorable conditions. The potential productivity of the crop under irrigation can reach significant levels; however, the realization of this potential is directly linked to the optimization of plant stand density before harvest and the balance of mineral nutrition, where an excess of nitrogen can negatively affect root quality.
