Herbicide resistance in hard fescue

Festuca trachyphylla (Hack.) Hack.

Herbicide resistance in hard fescue is a varietal trait evaluated by the degree of plant injury following treatment. Breeding methods enable the development of lines with tolerance to mesotrione and glyphosate comparable to the resistance observed in other grass species.

In the reference 5 varieties crop Hard fescue, where this is mentioned in the description.

Hard fescue (Festuca trachyphylla) is traditionally sensitive to a wide spectrum of herbicides, including mesotrione, which induces chlorosis, necrosis, or growth inhibition in non-specialized populations. In professional practice, the resistance trait is determined by assessing the level of plant damage in field or greenhouse experiments at specified dosage rates.

Modern breeding using recurrent selection enables the development of cultivars with enhanced tolerance. As a result of this work, lines resistant to mesotrione have been developed, as well as varieties such as Aurora Gold, which possess glyphosate resistance, allowing the application of chemical crop protection products on these stands without the risk of plant mortality.
