Genetically determined ability of sunflower to tolerate the effects of systemic herbicides, ensuring the possibility of chemical control of weeds and broomrape while maintaining crop viability.

The trait is based on the identification of specific mutations in the AHASL1 gene, where the substitution of certain amino acids plays a critically important role. Molecular testing of these loci serves as a reliable marker of resistance, allowing for selection at the genotype level.

Assessment of resistance under field and laboratory conditions is carried out by recording the degree of phytotoxicity after crop treatment. Indicators such as the percentage of resistant plants, visual damage scales from 0 to 9 points, and morphometric measurements of seedling biomass and height are used.

Insufficient homozygosity for the target gene leads to the development of anomalies and phytotoxic shock when using imidazolinone or sulfonylurea herbicides. The use of resistant hybrids is the primary method for controlling the parasitic plant Orobanche cumana.
