Blossom-end rot of eggplant manifests as watery spots of a greenish, gray, or yellowish hue on the apex or side of the fruit. As they develop, the spots become sunken, darken to brown or black, and take on a dry, leathery appearance; in white-fruited varieties, brown or grayish-white streaks may occur.

This disorder is not infectious in nature, therefore it does not possess specific resistance genes. Varietal susceptibility is determined by the physiological characteristics of fruit growth rates and transpiration intensity, and the damaged areas often become sites for secondary infection.
