Echinacea plant height

Echinacea Moench.

A morphological trait that determines the height of the main stem from the soil level to the top of the inflorescence. It is measured in centimeters during the mass flowering phase and depends on varietal characteristics and agrotechnical conditions.

The genus Echinacea is characterized by a wide range of heights: from 20–40 cm in dwarf varieties to 150 cm in tall forms. Plants with a height of 30–60 cm are considered compact, while standard forms of Echinacea purpurea reach 80–100 cm. In the first year of growth, development is limited to the formation of a leaf rosette, which results in a plant height of only 15–20 cm.

Plant height is an important indicator of productivity and raw material quality. Tall forms provide a higher biomass yield; however, under insufficient lighting, plants become excessively elongated and lose their stability. Although Echinacea stems are known for their strength and rigidity, the potential height of a variety depends directly on the level of mineral nutrition, moisture availability, and the presence of stress factors.
