For hellebores, height is determined based on the plant type, which can be either stemless or stemmed. Quantitative indicators usually vary from 20–30 cm in low-growing forms, such as Helleborus niger, to 30–50 cm in most common hybrids, including Helleborus orientalis. Individual species are capable of reaching a height of 60–80 cm.

When assessing ornamental value, an important factor is the ratio of the height of the leaf rosette to the flower stalks, which often rise above the main foliage mass. Excessive height of flower stalks combined with insufficient stem strength can lead to lodging under the weight of the inflorescences. Plant height serves as a stable selection trait and determines the agrotechnical use of the plant in landscape design.
