Phaseolus vulgaris L.

Common beans are classified into bush and climbing forms. Determinate bush forms reach a height of 25–60 cm, whereas indeterminate climbing forms can grow up to 2–5 meters or more.
Plant height and the associated height of the lowest pod attachment determine a variety's suitability for mechanized harvesting. For effective machinery operation, the pod attachment height should be at least 15 cm, with bush varieties requiring hilling starting from 15 cm of growth to prevent lodging.
