Rhubarb plant height

Rheum rhabarbarum L.

Rhubarb plant height is evaluated based on two parameters: the level of the leaf rosette and the height of the flower stalks. These indicators determine the plant habit and directly influence planting patterns and crop productivity.

In the reference 4 varieties crop Rhubarb, where this is mentioned in the description.

In agronomic practice, the height of the leaf rosette, which ranges from 60 to 120 cm, and the height of the flower stalks, reaching 1.5–2.5 m, are measured. Values up to 60 cm characterize short varieties, while figures above 90–100 cm indicate vigorous varieties.

Plant height determines the optimal feeding area, which requires at least 1 square meter per plant, and the row spacing for mechanized cultivation. Excessive density or shading leads to stretching and a decrease in the mechanical strength of the petioles.

Timely removal of tall flower-bearing shoots is necessary to redirect the plant's resources toward the development of the leaf rosette and to prevent a decline in overall petiole productivity.
