A morphological indicator of shallot development, defined as the distance from the soil surface to the tips of the longest leaves during their period of maximum vegetative growth.

During variety testing, shallot plant height is determined by measuring a sample of 5–10 typical specimens while holding the leaves in a bundle. The indicator varies depending on varietal characteristics: compact forms reach 25–30 cm, while tall varieties can reach 40–50 cm in height. During the generative period, when flower stalks are formed in the second year of growth, plant height increases to 50–80 cm.
Leaf height is positively correlated with total yield, as vigorous vegetative mass ensures intensive photosynthesis, which is necessary for the formation of the bulb cluster. Varieties with increased height indicators are often more productive when grown for greens; however, excessive mass development without adhering to harvest times can delay the bulb maturation process.
