Variety traits
Trifolium pratense L.
The height of red clover is a key morphological trait that determines green mass yield and the type of cultivar earliness. Values for this trait range from 30 to 150 cm depending on the biotype, cultivation conditions, and developmental stage.
In the reference 55 varieties crop Red clover, where this is mentioned in the description.
Late-maturing single-cut red clover cultivars are characterized by the greatest height, reaching 1.0–1.5 m, whereas early-maturing double-cut forms usually do not exceed 1.0 m. Under production conditions, the height of the stand before cutting most often varies in the range from 30 to 80 cm.
The trait is closely correlated with biological productivity: taller plants produce a greater yield of dry matter. Height also serves as an indicator of stand uniformity, influencing the efficiency of mechanized harvesting and the quality of harvested forage depending on moisture availability and mineral nutrition.
