Powdery Mildew of Red Clover

Trifolium pratense L.

A fungal disease of red clover caused by the pathogen Erysiphe trifolii, manifesting as a white or grayish coating on the plant's vegetative organs.

In the reference 45 varieties crop Red clover, where this is mentioned in the description.

The causal agent of powdery mildew on red clover is the fungus Erysiphe trifolii. The infection manifests as the formation of a specific white, powdery coating on the leaves and stems of the plant, which may acquire a grayish tint as the pathogen develops, often causing deformation and curling of the leaf blades.

The disease develops most actively during periods of warm and dry weather, as well as in dense stands with insufficient ventilation. Currently, scientific literature lacks data on differentiated races of the pathogen and specific plant resistance genes; breeding for resistance is based primarily on field selection of populations with complex resistance.
