Greenhouse Tomato Cultivation

Solanum lycopersicum L.

Growing tomatoes in greenhouses requires the selection of indeterminate hybrids with an open habit, adapted to intensive microclimate management and low-volume hydroponics.

In the reference 2 090 varieties crop Tomato, where this is mentioned in the description.

Productive indeterminate hybrids capable of maintaining stability under conditions of low natural light and high humidity are selected for greenhouse cultivation. An open plant habit is a critical requirement for ensuring proper aeration, effective pollination, and the prevention of fungal diseases that develop due to condensation.

The cultivation technology is based on maintaining a balance between vegetative and generative development throughout an extended crop cycle. Important aspects include controlling light intensity within the range of 10,000–20,000 lux, the use of supplemental lighting, and precision nutrition programs adapted to specific plant phenophases.

During variety trials for greenhouse tomatoes, yield in kg/m², fruit marketability, and resistance to greenhouse-specific pathogens, such as Cladosporium leaf mold, are evaluated. Grafting techniques are also actively used to enhance the overall stress tolerance of the crop.
