Drought tolerance of Buddleja

Buddleja L.

Buddleja exhibits drought tolerance after full establishment, which takes 18–24 months. To maintain its decorative appearance during prolonged droughts, infrequent but deep watering is required.

In the reference 3 varieties crop Buddleia, where this is mentioned in the description.

For Buddleja, drought tolerance is a qualitative characteristic of mature plants adapted to open-ground conditions. Until the establishment period is complete, which takes up to two years, young seedlings have low resistance to moisture deficit and require regular watering.

Despite its ability to withstand arid periods, Buddleja requires watering in the absence of precipitation for more than 2–3 weeks to ensure abundant flowering. A critical condition for the crop's water regime is the presence of high-quality drainage, as the plant reacts extremely negatively to stagnant moisture in the soil.
