The name Bermuda refers to a type of short-day sweet onion, not a specific variety from a single company. In the past, various variations such as White Bermuda and Yellow Bermuda were grown under this type. Plants of this type are characterized by early maturity, approximately 95 days when grown from seed.
The bulbs have a characteristic flat or flattened shape. Due to the low content of sulfur compounds, the taste of the onion is mild and sweet. Because of the high moisture content, the produce stores poorly and is intended for quick sale in fresh form. Varieties of this type are sensitive to growing conditions and do not possess high disease resistance.
