BETANZOS is an autochthonous variety grown in the Betanzos area of the A Coruña province. It is a local population adapted to the climatic conditions of the region, rather than a breeding variety or commercial hybrid.
The bulbs have a characteristic flattened shape. The produce has a less acidic taste and a pronounced aroma. Due to its lower water content and high concentration of fiber, this onion provides a high yield when fried.
The plant is a seasonal crop. The bulbs are capable of long-term storage when placed in dry, dark, and ventilated rooms with a temperature of 4 to 10°C.
