The name Rose Bourbon refers to a local breeding line of onion developed for the conditions of Réunion Island as part of a program launched in 2002. The breeding was based on crossing a local variety Véronique with a variety of Brazilian origin.
Studies indicated a yield potential for this crop at a level above 30 tonnes per hectare. Characteristics of this object are absent in general variety reference books for common use, as it is a specialized crop for the local agronomic sector.
