The open-pollinated variety has round or round-cuboid bulbs with thin necks and firm outer scales of light brown or straw-yellow color. The plant forms erect grey-green leaves with good foliage.
The variety is characterized by stable yield and excellent keeping quality, allowing the produce to be stored for up to 10 months. Due to the firm structure of the bulbs, Balstora is often used in scientific research as a reference variety for studying mechanical damage during harvesting and storage.
The application of the variety is universal: it is suitable for culinary purposes, fresh consumption, and long-term storage. The variety is also used in breeding programs, including those for organic farming needs.
