The variety originates from the Bassano del Grappa area and has been cultivated in the Brenta river valley since the XIV century. The bulbs have a flattened shape, pinkish-red outer scales, and reach 7–8 cm in diameter.

The variety includes two types based on maturity: an early one, harvested from the end of May to mid-June, and a late one, from June to September. Uses of the onion include fresh consumption, frying, boiling, and preserving.
