The bulbs of the variety have an elongated pear shape, which is why the variety is also called "banana onion". The dry scales are colored light brown, and the inner flesh is white. The above-ground part of the plant reaches a height of 66 cm, the leaves are dark green. The neck is of medium thickness.
The growing season is from 100 to 130 days. The variety shows resistance to bolting and adaptability to saline soils. Taste qualities are characterized as sweetish and semi-sharp, with an increased content of fructans and pyruvic acid. The onion is intended for fresh consumption and short-term storage.
The variety is a landrace of German origin, also known under the names "Bamberger" or "Dolphin".
